Ahmad Shawkat al-Shatti (1900-1979) studied at the Ottoman Medical School and at Montpellier University in France. He co-founded Damascus University in 1923, and helped translate all books from Ottoman Turkish into Arabic. He taught at the Faculty of Medicine non-stop until the mid-1970s. During the years 1949-1954, Shatti served as secretary-general of the Ministry of Health.
